Lawyer Oradea – Recognition of Medical Diplomas in the European Union (EU)

Important Announcement: Categories and Conditions for Issuing Certificates for Recognition of Romanian Medical Qualifications

These certificates are issued only to medical doctors, dentists, pharmacists, general nurses, and midwives who meet the legal conditions related to citizenship, ancestry, marriage, and residence, and who have completed their professional training in Romania.

For holders of diplomas, certificates, and other professional qualifications issued by a third country and legally recognized (equivalated) in Romania, who have practiced legally and effectively in Romania for at least 3 years based on these qualifications, the Ministry of Health issues a certificate confirming this professional experience required for the recognition procedure in other EU member states.

Documents required for obtaining the certificate:

  • Application specifying contact details
  • Copy of identity document
  • Certified copy of the equivalence certificate
  • Certified copy of the equivalated diploma
  • Certified copy of academic transcript (foaie matricolă)
  • Copy of work record or employer’s certificate confirming 3 years of professional experience
  • Copy of documents regarding any name changes

Certificates are issued within 30 working days from the date of complete file registration at the Ministry of Health Registry.

These documents may be collected by the holder or by an authorized person via a notarized power of attorney.

Categories of certificates and issuance conditions:

Medical Doctors:

Certificates confirming medical training in accordance with EU Directive 2005/36/EC and/or the assimilation of professional titles with those recognized in Romania under this legislation.

Issued to holders of:

  • Doctorate Degree in General Medicine/Medicine
  • Medical License Degree in General Medicine
  • Specialist Medical Certificate issued by the Ministry of Health confirming training in specialties recognized under Directive 2005/36/EC for Romania
  • Specialist Medical Certificates confirming training in specialties such as:
